A Hands-On Workshop with Amaco Representative

Kathy Skaggs

Print Making on Clay

Silk Screening with Amaco Ceramic Inks

 Saturday & Sunday January 4-5, 2025

The Woman's Club, Punta Gorda, Florida

Join the Southwest Florida Potters Guild for a Hands-On Workshop with Amaco Representative Kathy Skaggs.

During this two-day workshop learn how to print on hand-built and wheel thrown clay forms using the new AMACO Ceramic Inks.  Presentations will cover a variety of printing techniques including linoleum and gelli plate prints.  The hands-on projects will be silk-screening techniques ranging from simple screens made from vinyl and organza to more detailed ones using light sensitive emulsion sheets that work great with photographs. Printing will be done directly on clay the first day and indirectly using newsprint transfers and slip on the second day. At the end of the workshop, we will construct forms suitable for printed slabs.  Kathy will also discuss glazes that work best over printed clay surfaces.

Learn how to silkscreen on clay using Amaco Ceramic Inks. Demonstrations and hands-on applications will include selecting an image that will work with the silkscreen process, how to make and use the silkscreen.

A selection of silk screens already made up will be available for use.

In addition to the silk screen stencils provided, Workshop participants will have the opportunity to make their own silkscreen stencil.  The Guild will provide light sensitive silkscreen material and transparency film for you to design your own stencil using a fine point sharpie marker.  (We will not have a printer on site.)  You can freehand the design at the workshop or come prepared with a suitable printed design on computer paper to trace onto the transparency we provide.

Your designs must be no larger than 3” x 4 ¼”.

Come away from this workshop with new techniques, an understanding of Amaco Inks, the piece(s) that you make, and your own silk screen designed by you.

Below is a link to the process using a printer, which you can do at home after the workshop.  Additionally, this video has information on the line size of the image for best results.
